Photographic Archival Recording

This is our speciality! We love doing Photographic Archival Recordings.

We have photographed high rise buildings, factories, churches, department stores, hotels, bars and houses, both big and small.

A development consent authority, as a condition of approval, may stipulate that a photographic archival record must be prepared and submitted before a Construction Certificate can be obtained. A photographic archival record creates a permanent record of a heritage place before it is demolished or substantially altered. The scope and detail of a photographic archival record will vary according to the degree of significance of the heritage item and the reason for its preparation.

In essence, a photographic archival record is a comprehensive, bound document that incorporates a title page, a statement on why the record was made, a history of the place, and a statement of cultural significance, together with mounted, labelled and cross-referenced photographs and a CD containing electronic image files. Measured drawings may be required but this is subject to the consent authority requirements. To ensure optimum survival of the photographic record, specific requirements on photographic equipment, the use of archival stable materials and photographic methods are required.

In accordance with the Burra Charter and consent authorities, the resulting document should be placed into public ownership such as a library or archive, for use by future generations and researchers.

Built Now & Then Heritage is experienced in the preparation of photographic archival recordings. Our experience enables us to identify key aspects of a place and interpret its fabric. This ensures that the resulting photographic archival record adds to the understanding of the heritage significance of the place.
